Did you notice that the aisle in the store with toothpaste and tooth related products seems to be growing every year?  On average, we are bombarded with up to 750 marketing messages from brands each day. Every one of these brands are vying for our attention, approval, and convince us that their product is the one we need to buy. It can be immense. So how do we do choose? We can’t help you with what type of coffee to buy or what laundry detergent to use, but we can guide you on choosing the correct toothpaste.

The issue with a lot of these products is that they all are promising something different or in some cases promising everything!  With so many types, brands and flavors, we thought it would make sense to help some and break it down. Here are quick tips of what to look for when you are lost in the toothpaste selection process.

Research has recently found that licorice could have the ability to battle cavity-causing bacteria, and the dental health care specialists at Atrium Family Dental, your New Lenox dentist, would certainly like to weigh in on the problem and help you make an educated choice.

Actual licorice isn’t really a candy sold in shops – and your New Lenox dentist, Atrium Family Dental, don’t really advise ‘fake’ licorice as a treat. Licorice candy can stick to your teeth and in fact help out the bacteria in your mouth that causes cavities and gum disease.

Summer days means lazy afternoons by the pool and busy evenings at sporting events, concerts or on the road traveling with the family.  Concession stands and snack bars tempt us with a variety of sweets and sugar-filled soda and juices, so parents must create strategies that will protect your children’s dental health and counteract tooth decay!

Here are five easy-to-follow summer tips that will help protect your child’s teeth from decay:

Nothing beats H20. Bacteria are attracted to sugar and together they create an acid, which causes tooth decay and deterioration.  Water rinses your mouth of bacteria and acid in addition to increasing the formation of your saliva.

Proper Oral Care: Children’s Dental

May 17, 2012

We all know that maintaining oral health is important, especially when it comes to children. Experts suggest that parents should start taking care of their children’s oral health at age 1 or as soon as their first teeth come in. However, a report from C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital indicates that the majority of children from ages 1-2 have not even begun seeing a dentist.

At Atrium Family Dental, we want to encourage our New Lenox, IL patients to bring their children to our dental office as soon as they turn 1 or as soon as their first teeth come in. We will give your child the proper oral care they need, so they can lead healthy lives with a lifetime of smiles.
